| “…those crippled feet hardly touched the ground.” One day when the team left to make visits, we were accompanied by
several young men. One of the men had severely deformed legs. We walked up one mountain, down the other side and up the next. I was concerned for the man, however, he was pushing the pace all of the way. We had a tight schedule, and I assumed that was his motivation. During our last hour of visits, I realized that he was especially hurried. When we walked into the last house, I knew something was special about the couple living there. The young man had pushed us all day to make sure we would have time to visit his parents. We were able to share the Gospel and both of them accepted Christ! As we walked back to the church, those crippled feet hardly touched the ground. For that matter, I don’t think the discomfort of his condition entered his mind as he led the charge in taking the Gospel to his parents. Colleen That was just one of many exciting stories of God’s mighty work during the recent project to Rwanda. Lon and Ruth Klingman led a group of 13 American participants to this beautiful country in October 2009. They reported that 7,195 men, women and young people prayed to receive Christ. Some of the men on the project had the joy of taking part in the baptism of 69 new believers. Following are more moving testimonies. Our closing rally was small because the great distances to the churches prevent many from being able to attend. Therefore, the pastors were able to give testimonies about the week and working with the US and National teams. Three of the pastors’ comments were of great interest to me. First, “We are so very glad that you came to us with the gospel of Christ instead of boxes of clothes.” Second, “You have inspired us to believe we can go out from here to evangelize the areas around us where there are no churches.” Third, “Through your coming we found the people were thirsty for the word of God.” V. I cannot describe the beauty of the Rwandan countryside or the beauty of the people and their openness to the Word of God. They welcomed us warmly. They were willing to listen and many came to know the Lord. They are hardworking and gracious people. One day sharing at the prison, I saw how much emotional healing is needed. Many prisoners have been part of the genocide. After the team spoke, many prisoners openly confessed their crimes. They stood to accept the forgiveness that Jesus had to offer. They prayed that God and the people will forgive them. I pray they can also forgive themselves and become a witness for Christ of the change He can bring in their lives. TammieOne day I stayed at the hotel with a sick team member. I did not have an interpreter. Before I went to my room I decided to sit out in the morning sun on the concrete steps. I was enjoying the beautiful day the Lord made when I saw one of the hotel workers coming up the hill from a distant shack. We greeted each other although he could speak a little English. Somehow my testimony ended up in his hands. He read it intently. He did not accept Jesus, but he helped another guy read the testimony and then another and then another. All in all, there were five who read my testimony and four prayed to receive Christ! Praise God! Ruth
The team arrived at a very small mud house. The local church member with us said the lady was saved but her husband was not; we could come in and pray for him. He had been sick for two years. He was lying on boards at one end of the room. He said he has a lot of pain in his chest and back. He coughed several times and sounded awful. Lon asked if he could share a little with him. The man said yes and Lon gave a very brief testimony and asked questions. Lon asked if he would like to receive Jesus as his Savior, the man said yes and accepted Jesus. Lon talked to him about how he had just opened the door to heaven and when he died he would go through that door to heaven to spend eternity with Jesus. The man’s wife was so happy! Lon asked her to read the Bible to him everyday. Her Bible was well used and had a brown paper bag cover. We left the house rejoicing because we felt the Lord had just snatched that man out of Satan’s grip and hell. He was in serious condition and he was 85 years old. Praise the Lord for His mercy and His saving power! Kathy |
