I heard a woman scream and saw her running away.
As I was approaching a village I heard a woman scream and saw her running away. I thought she was calling others to come and hear. When we all finally sat down and I began to share the Gospel, I noticed that this woman would not look at me. When I finished I went to shake her hand, and she started screaming again and was about to run off. I learned that she was 85 years old and had never seen a white man. She didn’t pray with me because she was scared and thought she had seen a ghost. Her husband, who was also 85, prayed to receive Jesus. As we were leaving, she told the deacon to come back later and pray with her. How remarkable that the first white man she ever saw shared the Gospel.
While waiting for another team to meet us, the deacon/interpreter went across the street. When the team arrived, I went with a national to tell my interpreter that we were ready to leave. As we crossed the street and approached the building where he was, we saw 10-12 men sitting outside. I felt led by the Spirit to say hello to all of them. They understood some English. I began sharing the Gospel with them and the deacon interpreted. Before I knew it, a crowd had gathered all around. I led them in a prayer and about 14 people prayed to receive Christ. I thought we would have been through for the day much earlier, but God had different plans. His timing is always best.  Tom

Here are some of the team member’s highlights from the Kenya project:

  • The Lord poured out blessings far beyond my imagination. The people here are some the most gracious and loving I have ever met.  Brenda
  • Visited 800 school children in four schools. The home visits in the villages where people asked for special prayers for their loved ones and for various sicknesses touched my heart.  Greg
  • A 67 year old man, John, became a Christian. He went out witnessing with us every day. His solemn face turned to a smile, and he is still smiling.  Pam
  • Last day of visitation the team met Mary, and at the age of 95 she became a believer!  Michael
  • Especially impressed by two that were saved—a Muslim and a witch doctor.  Ginger

Can you believe that a routine trip down a country road lead to heaven? This occurred to a man on his way to market one hot morning. The team had a long way to walk when we greeted this oncoming rider, a young man with business on his mind. But, curiosity about this group with an old, gray-haired white woman made him stop. We exchanged “jambos” (hello) and the interpreter explained our mission in Swahili. One team member drew out the Evangecube and began to share the salvation story as the man gazed intently on the colorful pictures. When asked the important question, “Would you like Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your heart?” he immediately replied, “Yes!” In the ensuing prayer voiced by the penitent sinner, he thanked God for making his heart clean and allowing him to join Jesus Christ, the Son, and His Father in Heaven some day. The team parted rejoicing and praising God.  Sarah

The team was approaching one of the last houses for the day. One church member said the man was Muslim and his heart is hardened. He had been approached several times, but he always refused to listen and would ask them to leave. I told them we would go and pray on the way. The team stopped at the entrance of his home, and we all prayed silently while the pastor received permission for us to go on to his property. The pastor said, “We are welcome and that he wanted to hear what we had to say.” After listening for about 30 minutes he received Jesus Christ as his Savior. We had a prayer of blessing for him and his home. We all shook hands and left. I then told my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ that they had just seen the power of prayer.  William

The wonderful interpreter learned how to use the EvangeCube and was very good at presenting it. The team was going to visit one more home, but the interpreter seemed very nervous. He kept saying this man needed many prayers. When we reached the gate, he told me this was the home of his father-in-law and that he was a witch doctor. While talking with the witch doctor a large herd of bleating goats surrounded us. It was chaos! The man did not receive Christ, but this gave an opportunity to share with the interpreter about how Satan attacks.  Also, sometimes the hardest ones to witness to are those closest to us. We realized that we need God’s strength and power, and that our work for the Lord is never finished.  Christi
