| “I want to be baptized” On the way to the church I witnessed to the van driver’s helper, and he accepted the Lord. While others were being baptized he came down to the area and said, “I want to be baptized!” And, he was! It reminded me of the Ethiopian Eunuch that said, “What must I do to be saved?” He received the Lord and was immediately baptized.
The churches we worked in had baptisms on Saturday. The baptismal pool was a hole in the ground that had been dug along time ago. It looked like a fish pond that had been lined with cement and made especially for baptisms. After each baptismal ceremony, the hole was filled it in with dirt to protect it. When they wanted to use it the next time, they just dug out all of the dirt and asked each person that wanted to be baptized to bring water to put in the hole. On this day the people came with water jugs on their heads and on their bikes, but there still was not enough water. So, they had to take our van and make two trips to the watering hole with all the jugs to get more water. Finally, the pool was filled about ¾ of the way with water. That day there were 55 people baptized from this church and more than 900 people were baptized in all the other Baptist churches. The people in Tanzania are all open to hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. More than 12,000 indicated they had accepted Jesus as their Savior.
I wish you could have been there with us. Sonia
Here are a few more participant testimonies from the Tanzania project:
The team visited a home where two elderly men lived. One of the men did not want anything to do with us, but the other man welcomed us. We shared the
gospel with him and he prayed to receive Jesus as Lord. Then he told us he was 103 years old. Praise the Lord! You are never too old to receive Jesus! On another visit, the team entered a compound of multiple homes. In the center of the compound there was a round structure. We were told this was the place where the witch doctor practices his trade. It was a strange place. I felt uneasy because there were many strange things in the building. The witch doctor was not there. I led four people to the Lord in the witch doctor’s domain. Praise God! Fred Our pastor’s 86 year old father gave his life to Christ. Marjie
The team visited a 93 year old woman who after praying to receive Christ said, “Now I have Jesus in my life. I knew that something was keeping me here. I was told three times that I was dying, and I am still very much alive.” This was a very spry 93 year old lady. Jean
It touched my heart to see people between the age of 70 and 85 accept Christ and then profess that this is the truth they were waiting for. Pendo (means love) is a native Tanzanian. She is a very young lady that has breathing problems; she went with the team on five hour hikes to share the Gospel. She has a passion to share the gospel. Pendo never complained and at times took it upon herself to share the gospel with a testimony or EvangeCube. Her dedication to the Lord was the humbling highlight of the project. André
One family of five had a young adult putting grass on the roof. The team asked him to come down and hear the good news. The family was very receptive to the Gospel, and they prayed to receive Jesus. Art |
